Kiln & glaze

Stoneware is tougher than people think. It is fired hotter than porcelain’s cousins and is meant for daily use. Still, a few habits will keep your pieces looking the way they did on the first morning.

What it can take

  • The dishwasher — every glazed piece we make is dishwasher safe.

  • Hot drinks, cold drinks and anything acidic.

  • Being used every single day. That is what it is for.

What it would rather avoid

Sudden changes in temperature are the one real enemy. Don’t move a cup from the freezer to boiling water, and keep it out of the oven and microwave.

Tea stains and grey marks

Matte glazes can pick up marks from metal cutlery. A paste of baking soda and water, rubbed in gently with a soft cloth, lifts them in a minute.

Letters from the kiln

One short letter when a new batch leaves the kiln — about six a year. First pick of every batch, never any noise.
